Ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, Northern Command chief Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, accompanied by senior Army officers, assessed the security situation and operational preparedness at the twin base camps of Baltal and Chandanwari and also apprised Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of the multi-layered security measures put in place for the pilgrimage.
During his meeting with LG Sinha yesterday, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command, was accompanied by Lt General Balbir Singh, GOC Chinar Corps; Lt General Rajan Sharawat, GOC 9 Corps and Lt General P. K. Mishra, GOC 16 Corps.

Lt Gen Pratik Sharma visited the forward areas of Kilo-Force and Baltal to review the prevailing security situation and evaluate the operational preparedness of troops deployed for Operation SHIVA2026.
During the visit, he was briefed on the current security environment and measures undertaken to strengthen vigilance and operational readiness of troops.
Interacting with commanders and troops, the Army Commander underscored the importance of sustained alertness, effective coordination, and mission-oriented execution to remain prepared for all challenges.
Lt Gen Pratik Sharma also visited Pahalgam and Chandanwari to review the security situation and assess operational preparedness along the Southern Route ahead of the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
